Black Bar Farm is our home. We bought these 18 acres in Durango, Colorado in 2011. We converted an out-building into our home and have been fencing and creating our farm ever since. We are a family of 4 that love the outdoors. We have never used a pesticide or an herbicide on this property and have been restoring this neglected land that we bought with animals, mowing and patience.
We raise organic chickens for eggs and meat for our family. We grow a lot of our own organic food during the summer as well. Mainly, we raise organic Bluefaced Leicesters (BFL) for their wool, and sometimes their meat. I have a small flock with a handful of BFL ewes, one BFL ram and a Shetland ewe. Our Shetland has produced a number of BFL/Shetland cross lambs that produce my favorite wool for spinning.
I have been knitting since 2008 when my son was born, which led us to having a flock of our own. I knit everyday and have learned this year to spin as well on my Lendrum wheel. I sell our homegrown, organic wool in roving and yarn milled from Yampa Valley Fiber Mill. I am also learning to use natural dyes to color some of our wool for sale as well. Please contact me if you are interested in lambs, meat or wool….all organic!
